Technology providers have provided feedback that provision of 5-minute telemetry for every Flexible Exports participating site is cost prohibitive at scale. We understand that key cost driver is related to the frequency of posting of meter data which may incur per-transaction costs in some implementations. At a 5- minute post rate this equates to posting data for 288 intervals per day for each site.
In response to this we have introduced a new meter reading batching option to balance SA Power Networks minimum operational requirements against optimisation of data traffic from aggregators. This option allows technology providers to store 5-minute meter readings and post them hourly. This new option applies to no less than 90% of technology providers connected sites during sunlight hours for solar only systems. This reduces the number of posting intervals from 288 posts per day to 8-14 based on the number of sunlight hours in the day.
To support the generation of operating envelopes and management of network and system security, the remaining up to 10% of sites will retain a 5-minute measurement post rate. SA Power Networks Utility
Server will manage the sites that are on 5-minute post rate to meet operational requirements but will ensure no more than 10% are posting at this rate at any one time.
Implementation requirements:
• If a technology provider chooses to implement batching, the Utility Server will manage which sites are on 300 second and 3600 second post rates by altering the MirrorUsagePoint postRate attribute
• Any sites with the MirrorUsagePoint postRate attribute set to 3600s must return readings from the previous 12 300s intervals for each reading type. This is achieved utilising MirrorMeterReadingLists and MirrorReadingSet resources (refer example below)
• The Utility Server will manage the number of sites on 300s MirrorUsagePoint postRate to ensure this does not exceed 10% of a technology provider sites
• Any site that has a MirrorUsagePoint postRate attribute of 300 seconds or 60 seconds, reading durations shall match the post rates of 300 and 60 seconds respectively
