5. Site Registration Specification

5.1 Purpose

Registration is the process through which a new communications software client representing a site is made known to the SA Power Networks Utility Server. This process is completed upon installation and is required as a prerequisite for the Dynamic Exports Capability Test and ongoing participation in a Flexible Exports connection option.

There are multiple ways in which registration can be achieved in CSIP-AUS, this section defines the supported registration method for SA Power Networks’ Utility Server.

5.2 Implementation

Prior to the provisioning of an NMI, the communications software client must register itself to the Utility Server. Devices will be authorised as they initiate communications with the Utility Server by posting to the EndDevice endpoint as described in section 6.1.4 of CSIP-AUS.

Once registered, the communications software client must post the NMI to the SA Power Networks Utility Server. This is achieved utilising the new ConnectionPoint registration extension described in CSIP-AUS (Annex E). The Utility Server will provide feedback on the validity of the NMI. If successful, communications to the site will commence.

The NMI is commonly gathered through the installation process and entered using the technology provider’s mobile app while the installer is on site. Adapting existing touchpoints will assist in making the process a seamless experience for the installer. Inclusion of registration over the 2030.5 interface will also allow for a simpler implementation for technology providers through the avoidance of a separate bespoke registration interface.

5.3 Specification

Implementation of connection point registration through CSIP-AUS is achieved through an extension to the EndDevice resource as pictured in Figure 5, where ConnectionPoint id is the site NMI. Full details including examples can be found in Annex E of CSIP-AUS.
