CSIP-AUS

Common Smart Inverter Profile – Australia v1.1

This document is a companion document to the Common Smart Inverter Profile (CSIP) designed to outline minimal changes to

support Australian use cases.

DER

Distributed Energy Resource: Rooftop solar systems, home batteries, smart appliances, etc – small-scale resources distributed among homes and businesses that all participate in

and contribute to the electricity system.

DNSP

Distribution Network Service Provider. For most of the electricity

network in South Australia, this is SA Power Networks.

SEG

Small Embedded Generation (less than 30kVA)

NMI

Terminology

Description

Aggregator

Cloud system representing multiple downstream DER as defined

in CSIP-AUS, acts as the communications software client for DER

Technology Provider

Entity developing a communications software client implementation, can either be an OEM or another party

responsible for the integration

Direct Device

Defined as Client in CSIP-AUS, where the communications software client is hosted for the individual DER and connects

directly to the Utility Server

Flexible Exports

Flexible Exports is a connection option provided by SA Power Networks, enabled by a designated electricity generating plant considered Dynamic Exports Capable as defined in the Technical Regulator Guidelines – Distributed Energy Resources

(“the guidelines”), specifically:

• Remote updating methods guideline

• Export limiting methods guideline

Gateway

On site hardware providing communications and control

functionality to DER on site acting as a Direct Device Client

Utility Server

Server entity as described in CSIP-AUS

Communications Software Client

2030.5 client to receive commands and send measurements
